Description The aim of this work package is to obtain new empirical data about the mental and physical health of children and adolescents affected by parental alcohol problems. Consequently, various research activities will be conducted in different European countries in order to obtain harmonised data on the subject. These research activities are a) an online questionnaire study with children affected by parental alcohol problems and unaffected children (as control group), b) a questionnaire study with a clinical sample of children affected by parental alcoholism (plus unaffected control group) and an interview study with their parents and c) a interview study with an adult children sample (plus unaffected control group).
All three research activities assess sociodemographic data, health behaviour, mental and physical health data, and family variables. The online study (www.euro-kid.eu) also measures explicit alcohol-related expectancies and implicit associations with alcohol. Implicit association will be measured experimentally using an alcohol-specific version of the Implicit Association Test, (IAT), which is a very innovative approach that has not been done before with affected adolescents in a European context.
